I watched him with love
When he first saw light,
And walked with pain and joy
As he always tried to fight
I healed all his hurts
with the magic of a kiss
And was there when he blew out
His candles with a wish.
Bedtime was for stories
And many off-key songs
And reassurance of my love
When his sister came along.
We've had our share of yelling
Each thinking he was right.
But afterwards we'd crack a grin
That ended in a pillow fight.
But I see so many of his faults
That reflect a part of me
That I wonder how he'll turn out
And where his life will lead.
But no matter how he'll grow
Or what he'll be in the end;
I wish above all else
That he'll grow into a friend!
